Wild Dark Shore by Charolotte McGonaghy (audiobook)

Set on an island close to the artic where a family of caretakers are protecting a sample of the world's seeds in the face of climate destruction this book was a real page turner right from the opening scene where a woman washes up on the shore in a storm. I highly recommend listening to the audio version of this book as different actors read each character.

I thought this was going to be a predictable rom-com type book but found it to be more interesting than I first assumed. A woman goes alone to the hotel she and her former husband had booked before their breakup only to be thrown into the middle of a wedding party that is not going too well...

Library of Things Item: Ice Cream Maker

During the peach season (which feels so long ago now!) I checked out the Ice Cream Maker to make peach ice cream, it was my first time making my own ice cream and we really enjoyed it! I love being able to check out the library's appliance rather than needing to buy my own and then find a spot to store it in my kitchen!

I had enjoyed Daisy Jones and the Six so I picked this up even though I didn't feel particularly interested in a novel about space travel. I then proceeded to read the whole thing in one day. Admittedly I started around 5 a.m. and did literally nothing else the whole day! What can I say? I was tired and really wanted a day on the couch I guess :-) I don't know enough to say whether the aeronautical information was accurate but I really enjoyed following the characters along their journey.

Playground by Richard Powers

I took this book to Mexico with me this spring and I absolutely loved it. It felt relevant reading it at the coast because it is peppered with amazing facts about oceanic life. It's about human nature, AI, storytelling, climate change, and the ocean. I know it won't be everybody's cup of tea but truly one of my favorite books to date. I think Powers is an incredible author.
